Our rules: precision for professionals, security for everyone

Effective spam protection requires a balance between technical precision and ease of use. Our FORMALITY SpamAssassin rules offer both. They are continuously updated to withstand even the latest threats, ensuring clean and secure email traffic – whether you are an IT professional or protecting a business.

SpamAssassin: The Heart of Your Spam Protection

SpamAssassin is a globally recognized open-source spam filter that examines emails for patterns and characteristics in order to classify them as spam. It analyzes the headers and content of each email and assigns points for characteristics that are typical of spam – so-called "rules." Once a certain threshold is reached, SpamAssassin marks the email as spam so it can be blocked or moved to a separate folder.

What types of rules are there?

SpamAssassin uses a wide range of rule types to detect spam. At FORMALITY Deutschland, we develop and maintain all of these categories to ensure comprehensive protection:

  • Header rules: Check email headers for suspicious or manipulated information, such as forged sender addresses or incorrect delivery paths.
  • Body rules: Analyze the content (the "body") of the email for typical spam characteristics, such as specific keywords, excessive use of special characters, or dubious URLs.
  • URI (Uniform Resource Identifier) rules: Check the links and URLs contained in the email. They can point to known phishing pages, malicious domains, or dubious IP addresses.
  • Meta rules: Combine the results of several other rules to perform a more complex assessment. For example, an email that shows several minor spam indicators can be classified as spam by a meta rule, even if no single rule would be sufficient on its own.
